How could something so perfect come from something so broken? This is the most amazing three pounds you will ever meet. I couldn’t ask for more.

Meet Kellan.  Late Friday morning I went into labor + had an emergency emergency Cesarean. After surgery, I found out that I had a prolapsed cord + a ruptured placenta. This means that my placenta had completely detached from my uterus + Kellan’s umbilical cord fell out before he could make his way to the birth canal.  Not only was he 13 weeks early, but we both could have lost our lives if we didn’t make it into surgery when we did. I am currently in the NICU of the University of Iowa Hospitals with my little peanut + will be until further notice.  I have a feeling Tumblr + I will be close friends through out these months of waiting.
